Dr. Yusuf Demir: Türkiye will experience its highest temperatures

Professor Dr. Yusuf Demir of Samsun Ondokuz Mayıs University (OMU) said that their indicators show that they will experience the highest temperatures in this year or in these years.

“This situation concerns us both in terms of drought and the increasing risk of desertification in our country,” Dr. Demir said.

Professor Dr. Yusuf Demir, a faculty member in the Department of Agricultural Structures and Irrigation at OMU’s Faculty of Agriculture, stated that the increasing temperatures across the country could seriously affect human health and agricultural activities.

He also emphasized the urgent need for serious measures against the heat nationwide. Pointing out unfortunately, they are feeling the effects of global climate change, which has been increasing for years, more strongly every day in 2025, he noted, “While the rainfall we received in certain regions of our country, especially in April, May and June, provided some relief, the drought that began towards the end of June had reached the end of July, affecting more than three-quarters of Türkiye. Looking ahead, unfortunately, it appears that this drought will continue to intensify and climate data will remain above average.”
