International Clean Energy Day was declared by the United Nations General Assembly to raise awareness and encourage action for a fair and inclusive transition to clean energy. It is celebrated on 26 January, which coincides with the founding day of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) in 2009. IRENA is an intergovernmental centre of excellence for information, technology, policy, strategy, and finance in the energy sector.
