Burhan Sakkaoğlu, Secretary General of the Packaged Milk and Dairy Products Manufacturers Association (ASÜD), stated that ice cream is one of the indispensable flavours of the summer months.
Sakaoğlu pointed out that ice cream holds an important place among dairy products, saying, “Unlike many desserts, ice cream is a dairy product that contains nutrients such as protein, calcium and phosphorus thanks to its milk content. Packaged ice creams, produced in modern production facilities in accordance with hygiene and food safety standards, are among the products that can be safely consumed in all four seasons of the year.”
Providing information about global ice cream market data, Sakkaoğlu stated that the global ice cream market is estimated to reach a size of approximately 122 billion dollars in 2025.
“Türkiye is a strong producer and exporter of ice cream”
Emphasizing that Türkiye’s long-standing ice cream culture is protected by geographical indication registrations, Sakkaoğlu said, “According to data from the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office, Maraş Ice Cream, Görele Ice Cream, Adana Bici Bici and Nazilli Kar Helva are among the registered geographical indications, while the application process continues for various regional ice cream types. Türkiye is among the strong producer and exporter countries of ice cream; 8 of the 43 dairy product facilities with export approval to the European Union produce ice cream.”
Advising citizens to prefer ice cream produced in registered businesses inspected by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry and packaged in accordance with food safety standards, Sakkaoğlu noted, “As a sector, our goal is to transform ice cream from a product consumed only in summer into a dairy product that can be safely preferred throughout the year.”
