BİROL CELEP: TURKEY HAS TURNED ITS STRATEGY ON FOOD EXPORT INTO AN ADVANTAGE EVEN PANDEMIC

Press release…

Although the dried fig harvest was 90 thousand tonnes in the 2019-20 season and 85 thousand tonnes in the 2020-21 season, it has already reached 60 thousand tonnes, catching the export figure of last year with an acceleration of 15 percent on value basis. Speaking at the 2019-2020 Ordinary General Assembly Meeting, Aegean Dried Fruits and Products Exporters’ Association Chairperson Birol Celep said that Turkey, which is an agricultural country, has turned its strategy on food export into an advantage even under the conditions of the crisis.

Celep said, “Product Committees were established for our raisins, dried figs and dried apricots and these committees held meetings at both commercial and technical levels. In addition, the Organic Products Committee, Science and Technology Board, Economy and Finance Board were also established and continued their meetings in a systematic way. Financial and technical support was given to scientific projects carried out both at home and abroad.”

“Attempts were made to establish a licensed warehousing system and for Turkish Grain Board (TMO) to purchase dried fruits. The importance of being in close contact and cooperation with the producers was expressed in every platform, producer meetings were held, publication and training activities were carried out to solve the problems related to food safety and an active role was taken in the lobbying activities carried out before the EU Commission thanks to our foreign collaborations,” Celep added…
