All dried apricots, which were exported for 2 thousand 792 dollars in the 2019/20 season, found buyers for 3 thousand 500 dollars in 119 countries in the 2020/21 period.

Reminding that Turkey is the world leader in dried apricot production and exports, Aegean Dried Fruits and Products Exporters’ Association Chaiperson Birol Celep announced that 291 million dollars of dried apricots were exported to 119 countries in the dried apricot export season that started on August 1, 2020.

Celep said, “Last season, we had a foreign exchange income of 252 million 451 thousand dollars from dried apricot exports. Our target this year is very close to 300 million dollars, but we could not reach our target due to the decrease in the dried apricot yield. In our sector, which has earned an average of 1.4 billion dollars in foreign currency in recent years, dried apricot is our product that earns Turkey the most foreign exchange after seedless raisins.”

“It is estimated that Turkey’s dried apricot harvest will be 94 thousand 938 tonnes in 2021. A large part of this figure will go to export again. There is an 8 percent decrease in yield, but the quality is good. Therefore, we foresee that we will exceed 300 million dollars by exporting more value-added this season,” Celep added…
