Bedri Girit: Türkiye’s fishery and animal products exports to the USA soared by 13 percent in 2024

The TURQUALITY Project named Turkish Tastes, which was implemented 6 years ago by the Aegean Exporters’ Associations (EIB) with the support of the Ministry of Trade in order to ramp up the export of Turkish food products to the United States of America, the world leader in food imports, organised a very magnificent tasting event.

Girit: ‘We cooperated with well-established organisations’

Bedri Girit, Chairman of the Aegean Fisheries and Animal Products Exporters’ Association, stated that their goal in 2019, when they started the Turkish Tastes Project, was not only limited to increasing exports to the USA, but also to ramp up value-added exports with the Turkish Tastes brand.

Pointing out that in order to boost the export of value-added products, Girit said, “We have attached great importance to cooperation with well-established organisations. In this framework, we started our work in this direction by taking part in the curriculum of the University of Las Vegas. Afterwards, we entered high school programmes with the Nevada Restaurant Association. In order to develop commercial relations, we started partnerships with Chain des Rotisseurs and the American Chefs Federation. Thanks to these collaborations, we achieved a strong national visibility in the 5th year of the project.”

“In this context, I would like to open a separate parenthesis to the American Federation of Chefs. I could not believe the interest we saw at the national convention in July last year, which I attended for the first time. Our ambassador chefs made a show with the recipes they prepared with the products of our 6 sectors with a demo in a session attended by approximately 1000 senior chefs. I believe that these chefs will be important catalysts for us to reach our ultimate goal,” Girit added.

“Türkiye’s fishery and animal products exports to the USA soared by 13 percent in 2024, reaching a volume of 139 million dollars, thanks to the Turkish Tastes Project and fair organisations we carried out to increase our exports to the USA. By the end of 2028, we believe that we will enhance our sector’s exports to the USA to 250 million dollars thanks to Turkish Tastes,” Girit concluded…
