Türkiye meets 80 percent of the world production of oregano, which is among the most demanded medicinal and aromatic products in the world.
Spice exports are recorded through the Aegean Furniture, Paper and Forestry Products Exporters’ Association along with the Aegean Cereals, Pulses and Oil Seeds Exporters’ Association.
The “Spice Exporters Group” established within the Aegean Exporters’ Associations (EIB), which carries out all of Türkiye’s oregano exports, discussed strategies to ramp up exports to its main market, the USA, and the country’s oregano production targets.
Ali Fuat Gürle, Chair of the Aegean Furniture, Paper and Forestry Products Exporters’ Association, said Türkiye exported 169 million dollars worth of spices in 2022.
“116 million dollars of this export was carried out by our Association. We reached 54 million dollars last year in oregano, which covers 31 percent of our spice exports in the country. We foresee that we will increase our oregano exports to 150 million dollars in the medium term,” Gürle said.
“In 2022, the USA was a critical market where we realise almost half of our oregano exports. The USA is also our main market with 22 million dollars in spice exports and 10 million dollars in oregano exports,” Gürle added…
