Turkish Exporters’ Assembly (TIM) Cereals Pulses Oil Seeds and Products Sector Board celebrated World Pasta Day on 25 October with a written statement.
“Our share in global pasta exports is close to 30 percent”
Stating that Türkiye’s share in the world pasta trade increased to 24.9 percent on quantity basis according to IPO’s 2022 data, Ahmet Tiryakioğlu, Chairman of the TIM Cereals, Pulses, Oil Seeds and Products Sector Board, evaluated the sector’s place in global trade as follows:
“Following Italy, which has a 40 percent share in the world pasta trade of 5 million tonnes in 2022, Türkiye ranked second with approximately 1.25 million tonnes of pasta exports. In 2014, our share in the world was 17.9 percent in terms of tonnage, and in 2022 this data reached 24.9 percent. Türkiye, which has the world’s oldest cuisine in terms of products produced from cereals, has world-class brands in the field of pasta. Our pasta sector, which employs approximately 50 thousand people directly and indirectly with its investments spread throughout the country, creates an economic value of 2 billion dollars every year with its domestic and foreign trade volume.”
“In the first 9 months of the year, we exported 720 million dollars worth of pasta, and despite the decrease in average unit prices, we ramped up our exports by 6.4 percent on a value basis. The pasta export journey of our sector, which started with 13 tonnes in 1970, will reach 1.5 million tonnes by the end of this year. This means that our share in the global market will approach 30 percent,” Tiryakioğlu added…
