AHMET KAYA: ORDU REGION WILL BE THE CENTRE OF ORGANIC EGGS PRODUCTION

Ahmet Kaya, Chairman of the Egg Producers Association of Ordu Province, said that they take orders for 1 million eggs per week, but their weekly production capacity is about 600 thousand.

“We were looking for a place to sell eggs in previous years, now we do not have such a problem. We hope to reach the target of 1 million eggs a week in the upcoming period,” Ahmet Kaya said.

Farmers producing organic eggs in more than 100 farms in 19 districts in Ordu cannot meet the orders received in recent days. Farms have been established in many districts after the chickens (chicken that will enter the laying period) distributed in the city within the scope of “Organic Egg Production Development Project” approximately 3 years ago.

In Ordu province, where hazelnut and kiwi agriculture is also common, efforts to increase egg production began to bear fruit. Ahmet Kaya, the Chairman of Ordu Egg Producers Association, told the AA (Anatolian Agency) reporter at the egg packing facility in Altınordu district that there are approximately 60 thousand chickens in more than 100 farms across the province.

Kaya stated that all the eggs they produce are organic and one of them is sold for an average of 1 lira.

“Money of producers deposited in advance”

Pointing out that the citizens show great interest in the egg due to the coronavirus epidemic and the month of Ramadan, Kaya said, “We cannot keep up with the demands of eggs coming from both in and outside the region.”

Noting that the demand was not so high despite exporting in the same period of last year, Kaya added, “We receive 1 million eggs per week. Our weekly production capacity is about 600 thousand. We were looking for a place to sell eggs in previous years, we do not have such a problem now. The money of producers deposied in advance on their accounts.”

Kaya expressed that the municipalities in the province also bought eggs from their unions and distributed them to the citizens in need and this enhanced the demand for eggs.

Stating that there are efforts to increase organic egg production in Ordu region, Kaya explained, “Ordu Metropolitan Municipality and the Eastern Black Sea Project Regional Development Administration have promised to support us in this regard. We hope to reach the target of 1 million eggs weekly in the coming period.”

Kaya also stated that they have established 1 million 200 thousand lira packaging facility within the association and emphasized that they started to meet the orders that came after this facility was opened faster.

In addition to this facility, Kaya announced that they established a feed factory and that they produced 10 tons per hour in this facility.
