“AEGEAN EXPORTERS WORK FOR QUALITY DRIED FRUITS”

Aegean Dried Fruits and Products Exporters’ Association has been working diligently for many years to boost the production quality and food safety of seedless raisins, dried apricots and dried figs, which are among Turkiye’s traditional export products and superfoods with high nutritional value, of which the country world leader in production and export.

Dried figs with aflatoxin are disposed of by obtaining energy in biogas facilities…

Pointing out that 75 percent of Turkiye’s organic production is realized by the Aegean Region, Aegean Exporters’ Associations (EIB) Sustainability and Organic Products Chairperson, Aegean Dried Fruits and Products Exporters’ Association Chair Mehmet Ali Işık emphasized that they exported 1.6 billion dollars of dried fruit to nearly 170 countries.

Işık said, “European Union countries and the USA come to the fore in our exports. The decarbonization process, food safety, sustainability and good agricultural practices, realized within the scope of the European Union Green Deal, are our priority areas. As EIB, we work to ensure sustainability in the supply chain, starting from the farmer to the shelf, through collaborations with other institutions, universities, research institutes, fig research institute, Provincial and District Organizations of Agriculture, stock markets, chambers of agriculture, chambers of commerce.”

“Dried fig is a prestige product of Turkiye. It is only in these lands that the Sarilop (Calimyrna) species grows and is shipped to the world. We export 70 thousand tonnes of 100 thousand tonnes of production. We continue our sustainability efforts to feed this healthy product to the whole world in a healthy way,” Işık added.

“Under the coordination of our Association, approximately 500-600 tonnes of aflatoxin-containing dried figs have been collected annually from exporting dried fig enterprises since 2000. Within the framework of the approval of the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, energy is obtained and disposed of in biogas facilities,” Işık concluded…
