The present and future of Turkish salmon were discussed at the Turkish Salmon Workshop organised by the Turkish Exporters’ Assembly (TIM).

Describing Turkish salmon as one of the most striking examples of development in the agricultural sector, Turgay Türkyılmaz, Director General of Fisheries and Aquaculture at the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, stated that Turkish salmon has secured a significant position in international markets.
Pointing out that the concentration of Turkish salmon exports in certain markets necessitates an increase in market diversification, Türkyılmaz said, “Access to new markets, the development of product diversity and the increase in unit export value must be addressed in conjunction with quality, reliability and branding. I would like to emphasise that the issue of standardisation, one of the key topics of today’s workshop, is of great importance for the sustainable development of Turkish salmon.”
“I believe that product definition and classification, quality characteristics, harvesting and processing practices, traceability and marketing processes must be addressed with a shared understanding. Turkish salmon is, of course, biologically a rainbow trout. However, thanks to the evolving production model and commercial identity in our country, it has secured a distinctive position in international markets,” he noted.
“To strengthen this position, scientific accuracy, relevant legislation, product quality, consumer confidence and commercial expectations must be assessed collectively. We attach great importance to developing a common approach by drawing on the accumulated experience of past studies and achieving concrete results,” he added.
At the Turkish Salmon Workshop, the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, the Ministry of Trade, the Turkish Exporters’ Assembly, the TIM Agriculture Committee, the Turkish Fisheries and Animal Products Sector Committee and aquaculture civil society organisations came together to help Turkish salmon achieve its export targets…
