Ali Kırali, Managing Director of the Turkish Mercantile Exchange (TÜRİB – TMEX), stated that the TÜRİB Futures Market, which is scheduled to go live by the end of the year, will commence operations with wheat and maize contracts.

According to a statement from the İzmir Commodity Exchange (İTB), the “TÜRİB Futures Market Launch Event” was hosted by the İTB.
Speaking at the opening of the event, Işınsu Kestelli, Chairwoman of the İTB Board of Directors, highlighted the importance of organised markets in managing price risks for agricultural products.
Noting that stronger markets must be established to support stronger production, Kestelli said: “We must manage price risks more effectively to achieve a more competitive agricultural sector. Today, an important step in this process is being taken here in Izmir. Our task from now on is to develop this market together, communicate it effectively and ensure it meets the sector’s genuine needs.”
Speaking at a panel discussion held during the meeting, TÜRİB General Manager Ali Kırali provided information on the operational framework they have devised for the market, saying:
“Firstly, we plan to begin with wheat and maize products. Contracts backed by Electronic Warehouse Certificates (ELÜS – EWR) have been designed for physical delivery, whilst index-backed contracts are designed for cash settlement. It is envisaged that Konya province will serve as the initial physical delivery point, given the high volume of cereal production there and its central logistical location. We have established a flexible infrastructure that allows for the expansion of underlying assets and delivery points at a later stage.”
During the panel discussion, Burak Kınalılar, Deputy General Manager of İş Yatırım Menkul Değerler AŞ; Haluk Tezcan, Honorary President of the Turkish Flour Industrialists’ Federation (TUSAF) and Bülent Uçak, Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors at İTB, also shared their views on the importance of agricultural futures markets…
