Türkiye healed the wounds of its 2025 export losses due to the climate crisis in 2026!

Between January 1 and August 10, 2026, the country exported 68,737 tonnes of cherries, earning 235 million dollars in foreign exchange.

In the same period of 2025, cherry exports amounted to 6,040 tonnes, equivalent to 47,728,000 dollars. Compared to 2025, cherry exports surged 11-fold in quantity and 4-fold in foreign exchange earnings.

“We Achieved a Strong Recovery in Cherry Exports”

Cengiz Balık, Chair of the Aegean Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Exporters Association, announced that Türkiye is the world’s leading cherry producer and among the top 3-4 exporting countries. “In 2025, a frost hit the cherry trees during the flowering period, resulting in a significant drop in exports that year, but a strong recovery was achieved in cherry exports in 2026,” he said.

Highlighting that 2026 showed a remarkable performance for Turkish cherry exports, he added, “In the remaining part of 2026, we earned 235 million in foreign exchange revenue from cherry exports exceeding 68,000 tonnes. Compared to the same period last year, we experienced an approximately 11-fold spike in export volume and a 4-fold spike in export value.”
