Şemsettin Özgür, Chair of the Sectoral Council of the Turkish Dried Fruit and Products Exporters’ Associations, emphasised that they would be concentrating on China and India as target markets and that one of their key priorities would be to improve quality and food safety.
Chairman Özgür, who stated that the effects of the climate crisis experienced in Türkiye in 2025 were strongly felt during the 2025/26 dried fruit export season, spoke as follows regarding the dried fruit sector’s export performance in 2026: “Between 1 January and 15 May 2026, we exported 115,000 tonnes of dried fruit and brought 601,235,000 dollars in foreign exchange into the country. During the same period in 2025, our exports amounted to 138,220 tonnes, worth 678,848,000 dollars. We experienced a 17 per cent decline in volume and an 11 per cent drop in foreign exchange earnings. If weather conditions improve in 2026, we can make up for these export losses. We could reach an annual export figure of 2 billion dollars.”
