Celal Kadooğlu: Türkiye proves itself to be the primary hub ensuring food supply security for our neighbouring regions

Press release…

Exports from the cereals, pulses, oilseeds and processed products sector—which continues to lead the way with a 31.1 per cent share of total exports from South-Eastern Anatolia—reached 1.2 billion dollars in the first four months of the year.

Compared to the same period last year, the region’s grain sector exports rose by 1.3 per cent in volume terms, whilst the increase in value terms reached 3.9 per cent. Over the four-month period, 401,000 tonnes of pasta, 281,000 tonnes of wheat flour and 171,900 tonnes of sunflower oil were exported. Exports of sunflower oil, the product generating the highest revenue, rose by 38.9 per cent to $279.4 million, whilst exports of pasta, which ranked second, surged by 12.4 per cent to 217.4 million dollars. During this period, when the average export unit price rose by 2.6 per cent, exports to the Middle East fell by 10.7 per cent to 484.4 million dollars, whilst the African market, where 445 million dollars worth of exports were made, saw a 25.4 per cent increase.

“We achieved a 26.5 per cent increase in exports on a monthly basis in April”

Highlighting that the upward trend in grain sector prices has continued for three consecutive months according to the FAO Food Price Index, which tracks global commodity prices, Celal Kadooğlu, Chair of the Southeastern Anatolia Cereals, Pulses, Oilseeds and Products Exporters’ Association, assessed the sector’s export growth in April as follows:

“The ongoing conflict in the Middle East has once again highlighted the strategic importance of the agriculture and food sectors on a global scale. This performance serves as proof that our food manufacturers—who process the raw materials they source into value-added products in their high-tech facilities—have been able to turn changes in the supply chain into operational success. In an atmosphere where global risks have reached their peak, Türkiye has once again proven itself to be the primary hub ensuring food supply security for our neighbouring regions.”
