The fishery sector ramped up its exports by 24 percent in the first quarter…

The seafood sector, one of the star sectors of exports, continued to write a success story in exports in the first quarter of 2026. Having recorded exports of 445 million dollars in the January–March period of 2025, the Turkish seafood sector ramped up its exports by 24 percent to 552 million dollars in the same period of 2026.

Ufuk Atakan Demir, Chair of the Aegean Fisheries and Animal Products Exporters’ Association, stated that the Turkish seafood sector had achieved export growth across all categories, including Sea Bass, Sea Bream, Turkish Salmon, Tuna, Trout, Rock Bass and other Seafood.

Sea bass maintaines its lead…

Demir noted that sea bass exports retained their top position with a 29 percent spike, reaching 185 million dollars, adding, “Our sea bream exports rose by 18 percent to 140 million dollars. Turkish salmon, which has graced global dining tables over the past decade, saw an 8 percent spike in exports, rising from 84 million dollars to 91 million dollars. Our tuna exports surged by a record 155 percent, jumping from 18.5 million dollars to 47 million dollars. We generated 29.3 million dollars in foreign exchange revenue from trout exports and 7 million dollars from sea bass. Our exports of other aquatic products rose from 45 million dollars to 52 million dollars.”

The lion’s share of aquatic product exports belongs to Aegean fishermen!

Emphasising that in the first quarter of 2026, Aegean exporters—members of the Aegean Fisheries and Animal Products Exporters’ Association—accounted for the lion’s share of the country’s 552 million dollars seafood exports, totalling 370 million dollars, Demir said, “Aegean exporters accounted for 67 percent of Türkiye’s seafood exports. In other words, Aegean exporters were behind two out of every three fish exports.”

“Aegean exporters achieved an even more impressive success story in sea bass and sea bream exports. Aegean exporters accounted for 90 percent of Türkiye’s sea bass exports. In sea bream exports, Aegean exporters also represented 84 percent,” Demir added…
