TAB President Ziya Şahin stated that projects should be developed to support the production of value-added bee products and that the projects of the Agricultural and Rural Development Support Institution (TKDK) should also be channelled to the beekeeping sector.

Ziya Şahin, President of Turkish Beekeepers’ Association (TAB) shared his views with an Anatolian Agency (AA) correspondent regarding support for the beekeeping sector.
Şahin stated that beekeeping is carried out by families and that it is not right to differentiate between men and women in terms of support, requesting that support be provided without such differentiation.
Pointing out that beekeeping is not carried out in villages, cities or fields, but in suitable areas between provinces, Şahin said, “Therefore, the beekeeping sector, which covers 15-20 thousand kilometres, must absolutely be treated as ‘migratory beekeepers’ and be given fuel support.”
“Supports should be provided in line with the importance of this sector and bees are needed to produce sunflowers, cotton and all kinds of fruit,” he noted.

Highlighting that Türkiye ranks second in the world in beekeeping, he explained, “The sector has export power, so you need to support the sector in this regard at the very least. This sector is also moving towards products other than honey, such as bee milk, pollen and bee bread are among the important products.”
“Beekeeping tourism is also important and it is also important to promote the work done in various parts of the country related to beekeeping. There are 5,000 beekeepers in Muğla province, 3,000 in Ordu province and 2,800 in Adana and Mersin provinces and that these cities could be promoted in beekeeping tourism. Within this context, pine honey production sites from Antalya to Çanakkale could be promoted,” he concluded…
