KAZIM TAYCI: WE WILL CLOSE THE YEAR WITH 14 BILLION DOLLARS IN CEREAL AND PULSE EXPORTS

11 billion dollars of exports from cereals and pulses…

Exports of Türkiye’s cereals sector continue to surge. While the 11-month exports of Istanbul Cereals, Pulses, Oil Seeds and Products Exporters’ Association (İHBİR) reached 3.3 billion dollars with a hike of 16 percent, the exports of the cereals sector in the country in the January-November period soared by 9 percent to 11.2 billion dollars.

In November, the top three countries to which the cereals sector exported the most were Iraq, Iran and the USA.

“We cannot catch the price”

Kazım Taycı, Chairman of the Board of Directors of İHBİR, said that they will close the year with an export of approximately 14 billion dollars. Taycı said, “As of December, especially as İHBİR, we are planning that our export figures will be slightly higher than the previous months. Our target at the beginning of the year was 15 billion dollars. However, the fact that we felt the effects of the earthquake, which took place in February and affected 11 provinces, for a long time, we had a loss due to the fact that factories could not work comfortably, logistics could not be realised and ports could not work properly.”

“Our goal is to close this deficiency by 2024”

While evaluating the sector’s performance, Taycı underlined that the most important problem of the sector at the moment is still access to financing. “The fact that the exchange rate-inflation balance is against us reduces our chances of keeping prices and competing abroad. In the meantime our target markets in 2024 will be the USA and Africa,” Taycı added…
