MINISTER OF AGRICULTURE AND FORESTRY YUMAKLI CONDUCTED THE FIRST MILKING OF EU-REGISTERED BİNGÖL HONEY…
“WE PROVIDE VERY VARIOUS INCENTIVES AND SUPPORT TO DEVELOP TÜRKİYE’S HONEY PRODUCTION POTENTIAL”

Minister of Agriculture and Forestry İbrahim Yumaklı attended the first milking of Bingöl honey, which has been granted geographical indication registration by the European Union, making it Türkiye’s first honey to be registered with the EU. Yumaklı noted that beekeeping is one of the most important agricultural activities in Türkiye, saying, “Bingöl honey will become a brand that transcends the country’s borders.”
An event was held at the Bingöl University Modern Beekeeping Complex, situated in the Eastern Anatolia part of Türkiye, to mark the first milking of Bingöl honey in 2025. Governor Dr. Ahmet Hamdi Usta, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Ahmet Gümen, Bingöl University Rector Professor Dr. Erdal Çelik, provincial officials and other guests attended the event, where Minister of Agriculture and Forestry İbrahim Yumaklı performed the first milking.
Minister Yumaklı, who harvested the honey wearing special attire, received information about the products produced at the facility.

“1,445 TONNES OF HONEY PRODUCED ANNUALLY IN BİNGÖL PROVINCE”
In his post-harvest statement, Yumaklı emphasized that beekeeping is one of the most important agricultural activities in Türkiye.
Higlighting that Bingöl region stands out with its high-quality and brand-name honey products, he said, “Our Ministry provides and will continue to provide, a variety of incentives and support to enhance Türkiye’s honey production capabilities and potential. Türkiye currently ranks third in the world for hives and second in honey production. Bingöl is also one of Türkiye’s major honey production centres. It ranks 14th in hives and 17th in honey production. Bingöl has quadrupled its number of hives to 179,000 in the last 23 years. Annual honey production is 1,445 tonnes.”
