Veysel Memiş: Pulses continue to lead our regional exports

Veysel Memiş, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Mediterranean Cereals, Pulses, Oilseeds and Products Exporters’ Association (AHBİB), evaluated the sector’s exports by product group between January and June.

Veysel Memiş emphasized that pulses, pastry products and vegetable oils continue to be the driving forces.

Pointing out that during this period, the pulses group accounted for the largest share of exports, at 22 percent, he said, “Red lentil exports, worth 120.6 million dollars, stood out among this group, which achieved 190.6 dollars million in exports. Along with other products such as chickpeas, beans and peas, pulses made a significant contribution to the regional economy.”

“During this period, pastry products ranked second with an export volume of 175.9 million dollars and a share of 20 percent. Sweet biscuits and wafers stood out with a value of 60 million dollars, while the pasta, cakes, cookies and puffed goods group also saw notable increases. We clearly see the positive impact of our product development strategies tailored to new-generation consumer demands on our exports in the pastry group. Also during this period, we exported 104.1 million dollars in vegetable oils. This figure represents a 40 percent spike compared to the same period of the previous year,” he noted.

Highlighting that significant increases were also recorded in products such as soybean oil, sunflower oil and margarine, he added, “The significant benefits of promoting bulgur in increasing exports to Russia. We are working tirelessly to ramp up our exports. We will continue to establish new export connections by promoting our products in various countries to further introduce the unique flavours of Anatolia to world cuisines.”
