“We can win Japanese importers with quality and different products”

Press release…

Turkish food exporters, who set an export target of 1 billion dollars to Japan, returned home with commercial connections that will reach the export target of 1 billion dollars from the Foodex Japan Fair held in Tokyo on 5-8 March 2024.

Underlining that Japanese importers are very loyal to their suppliers, Muhammet Öztürk, Head of the Aegean Cereals, Pulses, Oil Seeds and Products Exporters’ Association, said that the Japanese do not change their suppliers as long as they are satisfied, that their priorities are quality and strong ties and that Turkish exporters can strengthen their position in the Japanese market with quality products, different products and a different story.

Stating that the exports of the Turkish cereals, pulses and oilseeds industry, which exported 12.4 billion dollars in 2023, to Japan amounting to 100 million dollars is very low, Öztürk said, “The majority of the visitors at the Foodex Fair were qualified buyers, they came to the fair to make purchases. Japan is a big market with 120 million people. It is far away, but business can be done if we think about it. While the biggest export item of our sector is pasta, we can emphasise confectionery products. Laurel, thyme, sesame, poppy seeds stood out as products that we can boost our exports.”
