Aydın Provincial Director of Agriculture and Forestry Ahmet Ökdem said that Turkey ranks fifth in the world with an annual strawberry production of 546 thousand tonnes.
He noted that in Aydın, which is the second largest province in strawberry production in Turkiye, strawberry production is concentrated mostly in Sultanhisar, Köşk and Efeler districts and they produce 66 thousand tonnes in an area of 1,638 hectares.
Ökdem, who gave the information that 47 percent of strawberry production in Aydın province is produced with good agricultural practices, said, “We are constantly in the field in terms of fighting against diseases and pests. We convey our demands, requests and observations to our producers. Strawberry seedlings are an important deficiency of ours. We have done the permit work of 3 entrepreneurs in total. 700 thousand of them will carry out certification work.”
“We aim to triple this figure by 2023. Our goal is to make Aydın province the capital of agriculture,” Ökdem added…
