Yumaklı: Turkish fishery sector breaks a record with exports of over 2 billion dollars

Minister of Agriculture and Forestry İbrahim Yumaklı announced that the fishery sector, which exports to 97 countries, broke a record with exports of over 2 billion dollars in 2024.

Minister Yumaklı said that the General Directorate of Fisheries and Aquaculture under the Ministry carries out important activities in order to protect the aquaculture resources in the seas and inland waters and ensure their sustainable operation.

PLANNED PRODUCTION INCLUDES AQUACULTURE PRODUCTS…

Highlighting that Türkiye’s fishery production has increased sustainably within the scope of these studies, Yumaklı said, “We have implemented production planning for aquaculture along with plant and animal production in 2024.”

Stating that they included 7 species in hunting and 4 species in aquaculture within the scope of production planning, Yumaklı explained, “In addition, within the scope of our new support model in 2024, we introduced additional technical criterion supports to basic supports for fisheries, which we have been supporting since 2003. Thus, our family businesses and union member businesses have had the opportunity to benefit from more support.”

RECORD OF REPUBLICAN HISTORY IN EXPORTS…

Underlining that the Turkish fishery sector is a net exporter, Yumaklı added, “In parallel with the growth of our sector, aquaculture production and developments in processing technologies, there has been a significant increase in our country’s fishery exports. Our country continues to maintain its exporter position in foreign trade of aquaculture products.”

“In recent years, Türkiye’s self-sufficiency rate in fishery trade is 120 percent. As a matter of fact, our export figures clearly reveal this. Last year, we exported aquaculture products to 97 countries. Our aquaculture exports, which were 1.7 billion dollars in 2023, were recorded as 2 billion 16 million dollars in 2024. With this figure, we have reached the highest export of aquaculture products in history,” Yumaklı concluded…
