WOMEN’S COOPERATIVES WILL REACH THE CONSUMER THROUGH DIGITAL MARKETING…

10 September 2021, VAN – Women Cooperatives Support Programme Planning Meeting took place in Van between 8-10 September within the scope of the project “Building Resilience of Syrians Under Temporary Protection and Host Communities in Turkey Through Supporting Socio-Economic Integration and Creating Livelihood Opportunities” implemented by the Food and Agriculture Organization of United Nations (FAO), funded by the European Union.

Representatives of Provincial Directorates of Agriculture and Forestry, who participated in the project from Adana, Bursa, Gaziantep, Hatay, İzmir Kahramanmaraş, Kilis, Manisa, Şanlıurfa, and Van provinces, evaluated the current work, needs, and future plans of the cooperatives. The importance of the training activities carried out jointly by FAO and the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry for the sustainability of the project was emphasized. The stakeholders aim to ensure that the Agricultural Development Cooperatives in 10 provinces would develop their sales and marketing activities in the digital environment until the end of the project.

FAO Programme Officer Sheikh Ahaduzzaman mentioned that “FAO is working in close cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry at the local and central level for the successful implementation of the project. Thanks to this cooperation, we ensure the good achievement and sustainability of the women’s cooperatives programme.”

Ayşegül Selışık, Assistant Representative of FAO Turkey, stated that FAO continuously supports women in business life to reach economic opportunities. She stressed that women’s empowerment is a cross-cutting theme that is involved in all FAO’s activities.

In his speech, Van Governor and Deputy Mayor of Metropolitan Municipality, Mehmet Emin Bilmez stated that the project is crucial in terms of women’s employment and regional development. “At the end of this project, our women become more capable in the fields such as honey production, vegetable growing, and herb cheese making and contribute to the society in a better way. They will set an example” he mentioned and conveyed their support to all the stakeholders of the project.
