[Rimini, Italy – October 30 to November 1, 2024 ] The World Union of Wholesale Markets is thrilled to announce its upcoming conference in Rimini, Italy. This event will provide a vital platform for WUWM members to engage in high-level discussions and share insights on the evolving role of wholesale markets in addressing critical global challenges.
As we navigate rapid changes in consumption patterns, supply chain disruptions, and an increasing demand for sustainable food systems, wholesale markets are positioned at the forefront of these transformations. This conference will focus on strategic responses to these trends, ensuring that wholesale markets remain resilient, efficient and forward-looking.
Key topics for the conference will include the evolution of consumption and distribution channels, where participants will explore how wholesale markets are adapting to unprecedented changes in consumer behavior and the strategies employed to maintain leadership in the food supply chain. Another important theme will be integrated logistics and sustainability, emphasizing innovative practices that wholesale markets can adopt to reduce their environmental footprint while maintaining operational efficiency.

A high level lineup of speakers will grace the opening ceremony, including Giovanni Indino, President of CAAR in Rimini; Jamil Sadegholvaad, Mayor of Rimini; and Fabio Massimo Pallottini, President of Italmercati in Rome. Stéphane Layani, Chief Executive Officer of Semmaris, Rungis International Market, and Chairman of WUWM, will also participate in the opening ceremony, joining Francesco Lollobrigida, Italian Minister of Agriculture. To conclude the opening ceremony, the General Director of FAO, Qu Dongyu, will deliver a significant online address, sharing his insights on the pivotal role of wholesale markets in global food systems.
In addition to these notable figures, the conference will feature key speakers such as Rosa Rolle, Senior Enterprise Development Officer at the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations; Furqan Khalil Syed from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT); and Mabouba Diagne, Minister of Agriculture of Senegal. Many more industry specialists will contribute to the discussions.
On the final day of the conference, regional committee meetings will convene, showcasing representatives from various regions during the General Assembly. Fabio Pallottini, President of Italmercati, will represent the European Group; Eva Marone will represent the African Group; Arturo Fernandez will represent the Americas Group; and Zengjun Ma will represent the Asia-Pacific Group. Each of these individuals is a member of the Board of Directors for WUWM, bringing their expertise and insights to the discussions.
