“WE HAVE IMPLEMENTED 101 MEASURES SINCE THE BEGINNING OF THE PANDEMIC”

Bekir Pakdemirli, Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, participated in the Pandemic and Economy Forum organized online by Manisa Celal Bayar University.

In his speech, Minister Pakdemirli stated that the new type of coronavirus (Covid-19) epidemic negatively affected all economies globally this year.

Indicated that the agriculture and food sector is affected by the epidemic like every other sector, Pakdemirli said, “Agriculture is the oldest occupation of human beings and that the sector is an important tool not only in meeting the food needs but also in income and development.”

Underlining that the epidemic process in Turkey executed successfully, Pakdemirli noted, “We have implemented 101 measures since the beginning of the Pandemic, comprising the deferral of interest on loans from the agricultural support payments, the opening of the Treasury-owned lands to production and strict food inspections.”

Pakdemirli explained, “We have ensured the continuation of production in the field, garden, greenhouse, barn and pasture during the process, while we exempted food production and manufacturing facilities from prohibitions.”

“The use of technology in agriculture and rapid access to information will contribute more to production,” Pakdemirli added.,

“New production techniques such as soilless, vertical and urban agriculture will also become widespread all over the world. More than 70 percent of water is used in agricultural irrigation. We have to ensure water efficiency in agriculture in order to use it efficiently and economically,” Pakdemirli concluded…
