Minister of Agriculture Kirişci: “Türkiye should produce what it needs!”
Stating that Türkiye should focus on the products it needs in production, Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Vahit Kirişci said, “We produce crops that require a lot of water, such as corn, where water is limited. It is necessary to turn to products that need less water. We import lentils due to the prevalence of peanuts. Türkiye should produce what it needs.”
Minister Kirişci also emphasized that Türkiye is an agricultural country and explained, “There used to be no agricultural law in this country. There was no crop insurance. This law came into effect in 2006, 20 million policies were issued. We are producing a new policy next year. It will be possible to issue a policy that guarantees income.”
Pointing out that even though water is limited in some regions, crops that need more water are grown, Minister Kirişci added, “We produce crops that require a lot of water, such as corn, where water is scarce. It is necessary to turn to products that need less water. We import lentils due to the prevalence of peanuts. Türkiye should produce what it needs. We need to provide on-site employment. I care about this activity done here.”
