Chairperson of the National Olive and Olive Oil Council (UZZK), Dr. Mustafa Tan, stated that there are enough domestic production olive oil stocks in Turkiye.
“This year, we produced approximately 235 thousand tons of olive oil. We have around 270-280 thousand tonnes of olive oil with the stock taken from last year,” Dr. Tan said.
Indicating that olive oil is an important value, Dr. Tan noted, “We have been advocating this for years. In fact, we are fighting for all oils to be olive oil. We want large areas in Turkiye to be equipped with olive cultivation.”
“Our table olive harvest is quite high”
Underlining that there are enough domestically produced olive oil stocks in Turkiye, Dr. Tan explained, “This year, we produced approximately 235 thousand tonnes of olive oil. We have around 270-280 thousand tonnes of olive oil in stock from last year. Our table olive harvest is also quite high. The problem in other vegetable oils may bring about a return from table olives to olive oil. When we look at our balance sheet, since our average domestic consumption is 2 kilograms per person, it is around 160-170 thousand tonnes in total.”
