Minister of Agriculture and Forestry İbrahim Yumaklı announced that Türkiye has been awarded the ‘Full Compliance Award’ by the General Fisheries Commission for the Mediterranean (GFCM) for the 4th time in a row.
GFCM, which regulates fisheries activities in the Mediterranean and Black Sea under the umbrella of the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO), awarded Türkiye’s success in sustainable fisheries and aquaculture at its 47th session in Rome.
In his message on World Fisheries Day on 21 November, Minister Yumaklı said that they meticulously transfer the decisions of the GFCM to their national legislation and implement them fully; this award is an indicator of Türkiye’s exemplary performance in compliance with international standards and data submission.

Minister Yumaklı also highlighted that Türkiye has an important position worldwide in fisheries.
Türkiye;
- 1st in the world in Mediterranean sea bass and sea bream breeding: 1st in the world.
- In rainbow trout farming: 2nd in the world.
- In fishing in inland waters: 1st in Europe.
- Europe’s most powerful fishing fleet: 18 thousand 479 fishing vessels.
Pointing out that in 2023, the record of the history of the Republic was broken with a total production of 1 million tonnes of aquaculture products, Yumaklı added, “Our country became a net exporter in fishery products by exporting 1.7 billion dollars to nearly 100 countries.”
