Türkiye and Venezuela ‘Fisheries’ Summit…

The work has been accelerated under the ‘Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in the Field of Fisheries and Aquaculture’ signed between the two countries due to Venezuela’s request to benefit from the experience of Türkiye in the field of fisheries, which has a large share in the sector.

The 19 representatives who came together in Izmir for the development of aquaculture trade between the two countries agreed to take initiatives to increase the quota of 5 thousand tonnes allocated for Türkiye in the yellowfin tuna fishery in Venezuela. In addition, support was requested for Turkish investors to invest in free zones or to cooperate with Venezuelan companies operating in these zones.

TWO COUNTRIES MET AT ONE TABLE…

Türkiye – Venezuela Aquaculture Sector Consultation Meeting was hosted by Mehmet Şahin Çakan, Member of the Board of Directors of Izmir Chamber of Commerce and chaired by Turgay Türkyılmaz, General Director of Fisheries and Aquaculture of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry of the Republic of Türkiye.

İZMİR IS ONE OF THE AQUACULTURE EXPORT CENTRES OF TÜRKİYE…

Mehmet Şahin Çakan, Member of the Board of Directors of Izmir Chamber of Commerce, pointed out that the aquaculture sector has a great potential in terms of strengthening the economic cooperation between the two countries and ensuring the sustainable use of natural resources and said, “As Izmir, we are one of the leading aquaculture export centres of our country. We believe that when the aquaculture resources and aquaculture expertise of our countries come together, we have the opportunity to produce many mutually beneficial projects. Technology transfer, knowledge sharing and commercial partnerships can be key elements of this cooperation. At the same time, we can develop co-operation on the protection of our seas and water resources, taking into account environmental sensitivities.”

DETAILED INFORMATION NEEDED…

Turgay Türkyılmaz, Director General of Fisheries and Aquaculture of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry of the Republic of Türkiye, requested clarification on the rules that the representatives of the Turkish aquaculture sector will be subject to if they fish in Venezuelan waters and whether any incentives will be given to Turkish fishermen. Stating that Turkish companies are willing to invest in Venezuela, Türkyılmaz requested that detailed information on issues such as authorisation processes, investment opportunities and country certificates be forwarded to the General Directorate of Fisheries and Aquaculture by the Venezuelan authorities to be communicated to the fishermen and investors of the country.
