SUNFLOWER SEEDS MAKE FARMERS HAPPY IN DENİZLİ REGION…

Turkey’s Denizli province is one of the most important production centres in sunflower seeds, the farmers began to harvest in a rush. Quality and price made the producers smile in the province where 20 thousand tons of harvest is expected.

Sunflower harvest of the ‘İnegöl Alası’ type has started in Denizli. This region holds an important place in sunflower seed production across Turkey, farmers experienced the joy of giving labour the crops they have grown throughout the year.

Farmers who go to fields in the early hours of the morning collect sunflower seeds with knives. The sunflower seeds are then separated from the cob by the moth machine connected to the tractor and entering the field.

Farmers leave their harvested seeds to dry in the sun. The beans that need to be dried carefully for their quality are poured and laid on empty agricultural lands. The beans that are dried in the sun for 3 days are carefully mixed by the farmers between certain periods.

250 million liras income expectation…

Denizli Provincial Agriculture and Forestry Director Yılmaz Erkaya said that Denizli is one of the major sunflower seed production centres in Turkey.

Noting that the production areas have increased this year, Erkaya said, “We expect a yield of around 20 thousand tons in an area of ​​about 140 thousand decares in Denizli province. We expect sunflower seed production to contribute approximately 250 million TL to the economy of our province.”

“These numbers will increase even more when our dried nuts sector processes this product, sells it to the domestic market and exports it. In the coming years, we aim to ensure continuity in terms of yield, quality and yield in the production of sunflower for snack with crop rotation practices in Baklan and Tavas plains,” Erkaya added…
