According to information compiled by an Anatolian Agency (AA) correspondent from the Uşak Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry, work was initiated in 2020 to expand sunflower cultivation in the region, which was planted on 8,174 decares in 2020.

Within this scope, a seed project supported by grants was launched in 2021. Some farmers in the region who mainly grow barley, wheat and fodder crops turned to sunflower cultivation with the support of grants.
Since the start of the project, 14 tonnes of sunflower seeds have been distributed to 1,280 farmers.
The area planted with sunflowers increased to 40,700 decares in 2025, partly due to the seed support. This represents a 397 percent increase in sunflower cultivation compared to 2020.
Oil production, which was 554 tonnes in 2020, reached 2,669 tonnes last year.
Sunflower cultivation is mainly carried out in agricultural lands in the city centre and in the Ulubey district.
With the flowering of the plant, the sunflower fields turn yellow and harvesting is planned to begin in about 15 days.
Serkan Bilir, the Provincial Director of Agriculture and Forestry, stated that they distributed 4.5 tonnes of sunflower seeds with 75 percent grant support in 2025.
Bilir emphasized that sunflowers are of strategic importance in agriculture and that seed support has boosted the planting area for this crop every year…
