Sinan Kızıltan, Chairman of the Sector Board of the Turkish Fisheries and Animal Products Exporters’ Associations, said that the Turkish fisheries industry has reached a production figure of 836 thousand tonne s.
Kızıltan continued his words as follows; “Within the 836 thousand-tonne production of our fishery industry, aquaculture has reached 373,356 tonnes with the investments it has made in the last 20 years. The share of aquaculture is expected to exceed the amount of fisheries obtained through hunting in 2025. We run towards 1 million tonnes in production. The declaration of 2022 as the International Year of Artisanal Fisheries and Aquaculture in the United Nations General Assembly reveals how accurately Turkey has made an investment in the seafood sector.”
Exports in the first quarter were 304.5 million dollars…
Turkey’s fishery exports increased by 28 percent in the first quarter of 2021 from 247.8 million to 304.5 million dollars. If the exports of the seafood industry are on the basis of quantity; It rose from 47 thousand 505 tonnes to 56 thousand 475 tonnes.
While sea bass ranked first with exports of 101 million 242 thousand dollars, it increased its exports of 84 million dollars in the first quarter of 2020 by 20 percent.
Sea bream exports were 71.5 million dollars in the January – March period of 2020, while it soared by 25 percent in the first quarter of 2021 to 86.6 million dollars.
While the trout export was 35 million dollars, Turkish salmon jumped from 2.5 million dollars to 21 million dollars with a record growth rate of 726 percent. Turkish fishery industry obtained 20.5 million dollars of foreign currency from tuna exports.
