Saffet Kalyoncu: We exported tea to 116 countries in the first 9 months

Türkiye exported tea to 116 countries in 9 months…

Türkiye exported 3,642 tonnes of tea to 116 countries in the first 9 months of 2023, generating 18 million 23 thousand 919 dollars in revenue. While 45 percent of the exports were carried out from Black Sea’s province of Rize. Belgium, the United Kingdom and the USA were among the countries with the highest exports.
According to the data of the Eastern Black Sea Exporters Association (DKİB), 3 thousand 642 tonnes of tea was exported from the countries in 9 months, which has the only tea in the world with snow on it. From the said export, 18 million 23 thousand 919 dollars was earned.

USA IS IN THE TOP 5 IN OUR TEA EXPORTS…

Belgium, the United Kingdom, the TRNC, Germany and the USA were the 5 countries with the highest income from tea exports.

In the 9-month period of the year, 6 million 105 thousand 169 tea was sold to Belgium, 2 million 766 thousand 299 to the United Kingdom, 1 million 338 thousand 382 to the TRNC, 1 million 318 thousand 268 to Germany and 1 million 246 thousand 456 dollars to the USA.

Unlike 2023, tea was sent to 17 countries for the first time, including Mauritania, Tunisia, Egypt, Cuba, Burundi, Central African Republic, Namibia, Colombia, Cambodia and Slovenia.

45 PERCENT OF THE COUNTRY’S EXPORTS FROM RIZE…

Türkiye’s 45 percent of tea exports were carried out by companies operating in Rize region. In the January-September period from Rize, 2 thousand 234 tonnes of tea was exported to 24 countries, especially Belgium, and 8 million 74 thousand 80 dollars was earned in return.

Saffet Kalyoncu

DKİB Chairman of the Board of Directors Saffet Kalyoncu announced that Türkiye’s tea exports realised mostly to European countries as every year. Stating that they care about tea exports, Kalyoncu said, “We anticipate that we will close the year at the same levels of last year in tea exports. As a matter of fact, we are constantly working to increase tea exports. In the coming period, we will continue our work with the projects we have developed for our tea exports to reach higher figures. Within this scope, we will promote tea by organising tasting events in the first week of December in Japan, where there is an important tea culture.”

FURTHER RISE OF EXPORTS IS ON THE AGENDA…

Emphasising that they aim to raise the market share in the countries where Turkish tea is exported, Kalyoncu added, “In the coming days, we will try to ramp up our exports to these regions by organising trade delegation programmes with our tea exporters, especially to European and Middle Eastern countries.”
