After Eid-al-Adha, red meat price is on the rise again!
Due to the decrease in the purchasing power of the citizens and the lack of sufficient animals to be brought to the markets during the Eid-al-Adha, animal sales dropped significantly this year. Right after the Sacrificial Feast, red meat prices increased by 5 TL per kilo as of today. Meat is going up again and its prices will be increased by 5 TL again in the coming days.
While carcass meat cutting prices surged by 5 liras on average, the prices of minced meat and cubed meat surged at the same rate. Bülent Tunç, Chair of the Turkish Red Meat Producers Central Union (TÜKETBİR), stated that the hike in carcass slaughter prices right after the Eid al-Adha was not a normal situation and associated the main reason for the surge in prices with the lack of sufficient number of animals in the country.
Pointing out that there was a serious fall in meat sales, Tunç underlined that the menus were also changed in hotels and that the demand for meat did not increase during the tourism season as in previous years.
Indicating that there is a serious uncertainty in the sector, Tunç emphasized that most of the businesses are working below their capacity and said, “Meat does not even come to the mind of the low-income anymore. I don’t know what we would do if there was meat consumption as in previous years, because there are not enough animals in the country.”
