The poultry industry broke a record in exports.
Bedri Girit, the Chairperson of Aegean Fisheries and Animal Products Exporters’ Associaton, said that poultry sector, which brought in 347 million dollars of foreign currency to the country in the January-May period of 2020, increased its exports to 440 million 778 thousand dollars with a rise of 27 percent in the first five months of 2021.
Girit said, “The egg industry boosted its export from 93 million dollars to 151.4 million dollars with an increase of 63 percent with the demand for breeding eggs, especially from Russia, Iraq and the Turkic Republics. Meanwhile Turkey’s egg exports to Russia increased by 14 times.”
The poultry industry aims to exceed the 1 billion dollars threshold in exports by the end of 2021.
100 million dollars surpassed in May!
While Turkey gained 50 million dollars in foreign exchange income from the poultry industry in May 2020, it reached an export figure of 100 million 305 thousand dollars in May 2021 with an increase of 101 percent.
Pointing out that healthy food consumption has become a rising value during the pandemic process, Aegean Fisheries and Animal Products Exporters’ Association Chairperson Bedri Girit underlined that there is an increase in demand for poultry meat from all over the world.
