PAKDEMİRLİ: WE CONTINUE TO SUPPORT OUR FISHERMEN

Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Bekir Pakdemirli stated that they will continue their payments to support fishing vessels smaller than 10 metres this year and that they paid 28.2 million liras to small-scale boat owners in 3 years.

In his written statement, Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Bekir Pakdemirli reminded that the “Communiqué on Registration and Support of Traditional Coastal Fishing” was published in the current issue of the Official Gazette and entered into force.

In this context, Pakdemirli emphasized that the support payments for fishing vessels smaller than 10 metres, which make up the majority of the fishing fleet, will continue this year as well.

Pointing out that fishing methods, catch amounts, income-expenditure information and current data on the socio-economic status of fishermen obtained from this support programme, Pakdemirli noted, “This programme has been carried out since 2017 and will be put into use in short, medium and long-term plans for the welfare and benefit of the small-scale fishery sector.”

“In 2017, a total of 7 million liras given to the owners of 8 thousand 762 fishing vessels, 8 million 200 thousand liras paid to 10 thousand 297 small-scale fishers in 2018 and 12 thousand 269 support applications were received in 2019, 13 million liras support payment has been made in return. We continue to support our fishermen,” Pakdemirli added…
