OLIVE OIL EXPORTS PUT BAN AFTER 20 YEARS!

Press release…

Olive oil exports banned after 20 years…

Olive oil cannot be exported in bulk until October 31, 2021. Only boxed, packaged export is allowed.

The General Directorate of Exports of the Ministry of Trade banned the export of olive oil in bulk after 20 years, upon the request of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry.

Twenty years ago, the Undersecretariat of Foreign Trade, as it was then known, banned the export of bulk olive oil until 31 October 2002 with the decision taken on December 25, 2001, causing great controversy.

At the end of the intervening 20 years, the export of olive oil in bulk has been prohibited again. In line with the decision taken, olive oil cannot be exported in bulk until October 31, 2021. Only boxed, packaged export is allowed.

What is the reason?

Harun Seçkin, General Director of Food and Control of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, stated that there is a very serious increase in oil trade in the world, especially the price of sunflower oil is close to the price of olive oil and said that the uncertainty environment created by the coronavirus pandemic has an important effect on taking such a decision.
