Bülent Tunç, Chairperson of the Central Union of Red Meat Producers of Türkiye, stated that the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry’s ‘Abundance in the Rural, Support for Animal Husbandry Project’ and the provision of pregnant cattle in the General Directorate of Agricultural Enterprises (TİGEM) enterprises to producers at affordable costs will have a positive impact on the sector.

“In this way, red meat production will surge. In addition, this surge will be continuous, not a periodic one.”
CATTLE TO BE PRODUCED AT AFFORDABLE COSTS…
Emphasising that it is very important to strengthen family businesses engaged in animal husbandry and to ensure that young people and women take more part in the agricultural sector, Tunç noted, “Supporting animal production in the country will contribute to the further development of the sector.”
RED MEAT PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED IN THE LONG TERM…
Pointing out that the future of the livestock sector in Türkiye depends on small enterprises, Tunç explained, “This is an issue we have been trying to explain for years. With our Ministry’s Rural Abundance, Support to Livestock Project, giving pregnant cattle in TİGEM enterprises to producers at affordable costs will have a positive impact on the sector. In this way, red meat production will increase. With the project, the problems experienced in the country at the point of red meat supply have been solved in the long term.”
Reminding that imports will be prevented with the increase in meat breeds in family businesses, Tunç added, “We constantly emphasise that our animal wealth should rise in order to ramp up the supply of red meat. This is something that will only be in the hands of family businesses.”
