MUSTAFA TERCİ: EXPORT TARGET OF CEREAL, PULSE AND OILSEED INDUSTRY IS 10 BILLION DOLLARS FOR 2022

Mustafa Terci, Chairperson of the Aegean Cereals, Pulses, Oilseeds and Products Exporters’ Association, said that while the demand for food products increased during the epidemic process, Turkey exported 19.5 billion dollars worth of these products in the last 1-year period.

Informing that 41 percent of Turkey’s food exports are realized by the cereals, pulses, oilseeds and products sector alone, Terci said, “The exports of the cereals, pulses oilseeds sector from July 31, 2020 to August 1, 2020 reached 8 billion 32 million dollars with an increase of 14 percent if compared to the previous year. This is a record when looked at annually. The grain industry exported 7 billion 59 million dollars in the same period of the previous year.”

Referring to the fact that the sector has a wide product range from vegetable oils to chocolate products, from confectionery to bakery products, from cereals to spices, Terci explained, “Demand for food will continue to expand throughout the world. As Turkey, we are in a position to achieve a sustainable export if it takes steps to heal the wounds of global climate change and boosts its production. We aim to export 10 billion dollars for 2022”.

Informing that pastry, pasta and cake group exports were made the most in the last 12 months, Terci added, “1 billion 105 million dollars worth of pastry, pasta and cake were exported in this period. Thus Turkey has earned 1 billion 8 million dollars of foreign exchange income from wheat flour exports, In addition pasta exports have reached 775 million dollars.”
