Müjdat Sezer: We made a landing at the Barcelona Seafood Fair

Participating in the Seafood fair organised in Barcelona, Spain, Türkiye took place next to the Norwegian stand in the fair and made a trunk show against Norwegian fishermen. Under the leadership of Istanbul Seafood and Products Exporters’ Association (İSHİB), 20 producers from Türkiye participated in the fair. Seafood, which is accepted as the most prestigious fish fair of the world and previously held in Brussels, has been organised in Barcelona for the last 3 years. Türkiye has been participating in the Seafood fair for 18 years.

The exhibition, attended by over 2 thousand companies from all over the world, brought together industry professionals from many countries of the world.

Müjdat Sezer, President of Istanbul Seafood and Animal Products Exporters’ Association (İSHİB), who stated that Türkiye shows its difference every year at Sea Food Fairs, said: “This year, we participated in the fair, whose national participation organisation was made by our Association, with fifteen leading companies of the sector. Our companies are very pleased with the interest. Türkiye is already the leading country of the EU in aquaculture products.”

Oğulcan Kemal Sagun

Highlighting that exports of fishery products continued to boost even during the pandemic period, İSHİB Vice President Oğulcan Kemal Sagun evaluated the export performance of the sector: “In March, the exports of our sector increased by 5 percent compared to the same month of the previous year and reached 116 million dollars. In the January-March 2022 period, our exports soared by 15.2 percent compared to the same period of the previous year, from 204 million dollars to 351 million dollars. When we look at the product basis, the most exported products in the same period were listed as 130 million dollars of sea bass, 99 million dollars of sea bream, 28 million dollars of tuna and 15 million dollars of trout.”
