Öztürk: The exports of the sector doubled in 10 years

Muhammet Öztürk, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Aegean Grains, Pulses, Oil Seeds and Products Exporters’ Association, said that exports of the Grains, Pulses, Oil Seeds and Products sector in Türkiye soared by 8 percent compared to last year and reached 12.4 billion dollars.

“In 2014, the sector exported 6.7 billion dollars in Türkiye in general, while the sector’s exports doubled in 10 years. As Aegean Cereals, Pulses, Oil Seeds and Products Exporters’ Association, we have ramped up our exports by 216 percent from 337 million dollars in 10 years. As of the end of 2023, our exports as Aegean Cereals, Pulses, Oil Seeds and Products Exporters’ Association amounted to 1 billion 68 million dollars. Compared to 2022, our sector exports rose by 7 percent,” Öztürk said.

“As Aegean Cereals, Pulses, Oil Seeds and Products Exporters’ Association, the biggest hike in our exports in the last 10 years has been experienced in feeds and cat/dog food and cereals products. Feeds and cat/dog food increased by 32 percent compared to last year and 2428 percent compared to 10 years ago and reached 163 million dollars,” Öztürk explained.

Pointing out that cereal products expanded by 681 percent compared to last year and 3645 percent compared to 10 years ago, with an increase of 93 million dollars, Öztürk added, “The most important source of the increase in our cereals sub-sector is corn. The top 5 countries to which our Association exported the most in 2023 were Algeria with 102.3 million dollars, Russia with 77.8 million dollars, Libya with 74.5 million dollars, Iran with 69 million dollars and Djibouti with 62 million dollars.”

“In Türkiye in general, the top 5 countries in cereals, pulses and oilseeds exports are Iraq, USA, Iran, Syria and Italy. We came together with our 6 Exporter Associations operating in the Cereals, Pulses, Oil Seeds and Products Sector and created the Turkish Food Exporters brand. As the Sector Board, we will carry out our promotional activities in the new period with the Turkish Food Exporters (TGİ) brand from now on,” Öztürk concluded…
