Press release…
Manisa Provincial Director of Agriculture and Forestry Metin Öztürk stated that approximately 45 thousand tonnes of cherries are produced in 91 thousand 300 decares of land in Manisa and said that the province being an early cherry production centre provides a great advantage to the producers in the region.
Pointing out that Manisa’s cherry production will boost even more when the newly planted cherry production areas in Manisa region start to yield products, Öztürk said, ‘We are currently in the geography that grows the earliest cherries in the Northern Hemisphere. We are in the region located in our Şehzadeler district, which we call Sancaklı region. In this region, we are extracting the first cherry of the Northern Hemisphere in the open field. Therefore, we obtain a very value-added crop and it is a crop that we send directly for export.’
Manisa Provincial Director of Agriculture and Forestry Metin Öztürk, who informed that Manisa has a wide cherry harvest period starting in April and lasting until the end of August, concluded his words as follows; “We have had a long cherry production season. This season, we expect the average yields we receive every year. Our observations in the field are like that. I wish a fruitful year for our producers.”
