The Aegean Dried Fruit and Products Exporters’ Association, the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry and producers joined forces to ensure food safety in dried figs, the fruit of paradise, by preventing their contact with the soil during drying and preventing the formation of aflatoxin and ochratoxin.
Within the context of a protocol signed between the Aegean Dried Fruit and Products Exporters’ Association and the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry 19 000 drying fig trays / drying pans have been distributed to dried fig producers in Izmir and Aydın provinces. Dried fig producers in Izmir received 7,500 dried fig trays, while producers in Aydın received 11,500 dried fig trays.
Mehmet Ali Işık, Chair of the Aegean Dried Fruits and Products Exporters’ Association, stated that equipment and training programmes for producers have been ongoing since the early 2000s.
“With the support of universities, institutes and the Ministry, to ensure that the export journey of dried figs is not interrupted in the largest buyer market, the European Union and other countries and also to prevent aflatoxin and ochratoxin returns from export markets, we have been trying to do our best,” he added…
