Işık: Production should not be interrupted in 11 provinces in the earthquake zone

Mehmet Ali Işık, Chair of the Aegean Dried Fruits and Products Exporters’ Association (EKMİB), said that as Turkish Exporters’ Assembly (TIM) Agriculture Commission, they visited the regions affected by the 6 February earthquake.

“These provinces are Türkiye’s very important food warehouses, especially citrus, cereals, pulses, oil seeds, dried fruits, cotton, watermelon, pepper paste, onions, wheat, olives and olive oil,” Işık said.

Pointing out that there are serious losses in this region, especially in irrigation systems, labour, logistics and processing facilities, Işık explained, “These losses must be eliminated as soon as possible and production must continue without interruption. These 11 provinces met the country’s needs and achieved an export of 7.4 billion dollars in 2022. We must revive the production in the earthquake zone. As a matter of fact, the food need of 8 billion people worldwide is increasing by 1.3 percent every year. We can meet this need by growing our production.”

“There is a trend towards healthy food in the world. Organic production has been carried out in Türkiye for 35 years under the leadership of the Aegean Region. We are working to ramp up the demand of Turkish food products for international markets through good agricultural practices and organic production,” he added…
