HONEY PRODUCTION FALLS SHARPLY, PRICES SOAR BY 60 PERCENT!

Honey production, which fell 50 percent this year due to drought, decreased by 70 percent in total due to forest fires. Ziya Şahin, Head of the Turkish Beekeepers’ Association (TAB), said that this was reflected in the consumer as a 60 percent hike. It is feared that the reduced production will further increase the production of fake honey.

Şahin said, “The annual honey production, which fell by 50 percent due to drought, decreased by another 20 percent due to the damage to the hives due to fires.”

Honey production, which decreased by 25 percent from 2019 to 2020, decreased by 60-70 percent from 2020 to 2021…

“While Eastern and Southeastern Anatolia were the most affected by drought, Muğla was the most affected province by the fires, which supplies 18 percent of the pine honey production. While the decrease in pine honey production reached 85 percent and all these factors were reflected to the consumer as a 60 percent increase,” Şahin added…
