Pomegranate fruit, which has been a source of flavour and healing for humanity for more than 5 thousand years and is the symbol of abundance, is having an bumper year in exports in 2024.
In the January – October period of 2024, Türkiye’s pomegranate exports surged by 32 percent from 75 million to 100 million dollars.

Hayrettin Uçak, Head of the Aegean Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Exporters’ Association, who informed that Türkiye is among the top five countries in the world with its pomegranate production reaching 700 thousand tonnes annually, underlined that it is among the top 10 countries in exports with exports of 150-200 thousand tonnes per year.
Stating that Antalya province ranks first in pomegranate production and this region is followed by Muğla, Mersin, Adana and Denizli provinces, Uçak said, “Pomegranate production has been provided in Mediterranean countries for more than 5 thousand years, but it has shown a great development with the 2000s. Exports soared in line with production. Our pomegranate exports, which were 59 million dollars in 2010, surged to 131 million dollars at the end of 2023. In 2024, we aim to exceed 150 million dollars. We believe that Türkiye’s pomegranate exports will reach 250 million dollars in the medium term.”
Reminding that as the Aegean Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Exporters’ Association, they have been taking samples from the production regions and making analyses with the project named “We Know the Pesticides We Use” for 6 years, Uçak continued as follows: “Our pomegranate producers have become very conscious in 6 years. It has become a quality and zero residue production. In this way, our pomegranate exports continue to boost every year. We will continue our cooperation with our producers in the coming years in order to raise the quality of our pomegranate production.”
Pointing out that the pomegranate yield and quality were very good in 2024 and there was a 20 percent increase in the yield, Uçak added, “Pomegranate was exported to 61 countries in the 10-month period of 2024.”
“In the January-October period of 2024, the Russian Federation ranked first among the countries to which Türkiye exported pomegranate with an amount of 21 million dollars, while we exported 20 million dollars worth of pomegranate to Iraq, which ranked second. While Germany demanded 14.5 million dollars worth of Turkish pomegranate, we sent 7.5 million dollars worth of pomegranate to the UK and 5.5 million dollars to Ukraine,” Uçak concluded…
