Due to the start of the tangerine season, Aegean Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Exporters’ Association held a “Mandarin Harvest Ceremony” in Gümüldür region of Izmir, the capital of world-famous satsuma tangerine.
Emphasizing that the tangerine is the export champion with an amount of 453 million dollars in fruit and vegetable exports from Türkiye in 2021, Aegean Exporters’ Associations Coordinator Vice Chair and Aegean Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Exporters’ Association Chhairperson Hayrettin Uçak noted that 140 million dollars of tangerine exports were obtained from satsuma tangerine exports.

Indicating that the world-famous Izmir’s satsuma tangerine yield soared by 100 percent to 175 thousand tonnes, Uçak said, “Tangerine is the most exported crop among fresh fruit and vegetable products. Our country ranks third in tangerine production after China and Spain. 5 out of 100 tangerines produced in the world come from our country. We are again in the third place in exports after China and South Africa.”
“As Türkiye, we exported 930 thousand tonnes in return for 453 million dollars to 72 countries in 2021. By the way we exported 58 percent of the tangerines we produced. These figures reveal how important the product is for our country. In 2022, our goal in tangerine exports is to earn 650 million dollars in foreign currency in return for 1 million tonnes,” he added…
