Drought alert in Amik Plain, crop losses expected!

Hatay Mustafa Kemal University (HMKU) Faculty of Agriculture, Department of Field Crops announced that they expect a serious decrease in agricultural production this year due to the drought in the Amik Plain. In the plain, which is one of the most productive agricultural areas of Türkiye, the effect of drought is becoming more and more evident with each passing day.

TEMPERATURES ABOVE SEASONAL NORMS STRAIN AGRICULTURE…

In the statement made by academicians, it was stated that the hike in air temperatures across the country by 10-12 degrees above seasonal norms caused great difficulties in agricultural activities. It was stated that this situation directly affects grain production, especially in the Amik Plain.

IRRIGATION FACILITIES ARE INSUFFICIENT, PRODUCERS ARE IN DIFFICULTY…

Pointing out that the need for irrigation of crops such as wheat and barley has increased due to drought, experts said that producers with irrigation facilities irrigate 24 hours a day, but this is not possible in lands without irrigation infrastructure. It is predicted that this situation may cause serious product losses during the harvest period.
