Mehmet Ali Işık, Chair of the Aegean Dried Fruits and Products Exporters’ Assocaition, stated that they entered the 2023/24 season with an export target of 300 million dollars in dried figs, the fruit of paradise.
Pointing out that dried fig exports reached 277 million dollars, he said, “We expect dried fig exports to reach 300 million dollars by the end of the season. In order not to have problems due to aflatoxin and ochratoxin in dried figs, as the sector, we are working to establish a system from the farmer to the shelf. We should act jointly so that the frequency of control in the EU does not increase.”

At the Aegean Dried Fruits and Products Exporters’ Association Advisory General Assembly Meeting, a recommendation was made that the first export date of dried figs for the 2024/25 season should start on 25 September 2024. The decision will be submitted to the Ministry of Trade. The Ministry of Trade will make the final decision.
Türkiye exported 60 thousand 655 tonnes of dried figs in the dried fig season, which started on 6 October 2023, generating 277 million dollars in foreign currency. In the same period of the 2022/23 season, dried fig exports were 66 thousand 977 tonnes for 238 million dollars. Although dried fig exports decreased by 9.6 percent on quantity basis, it managed to ramp up its export revenue thanks to the 28 percent spike in the average export price.
The top three countries in dried fig exports were the United States of America with 56 million dollars, France with 32.4 million dollars and Germany with 30.5 million dollars…
